SOCORRO STORMS INTO HORIZON: BULLDOGS RUN WILD IN 55-21 VICTORY

Socorro unleashed a devastating ground attack and pulled away for a convincing 55-21 victory over the Horizon Scorpions on September 11, improving to 2-1 on the young season. For Horizon, which entered the night at 1-1 after an exciting 28-27 victory over Mountain View the previous week, the loss dropped the Scorpions to 1-2. But Friday belonged to Socorro from the opening whistle. BULLDOGS COME OUT BARKING Socorro wasted no time establishing its identity. The Bulldogs exploded for 20 points in the first quarter, while Horizon managed just seven. That early burst proved to be the difference. Socorro added another touchdown in the second quarter and entered halftime with a 27-7 advantage. After the break, the Bulldogs kept the pressure on, scoring 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters. Horizon managed two fourth-quarter touchdowns, but by then the damage had already been done. Socorro 55. Horizon 21. HUNT WAS SIMPLY UNSTOPPABLE The headline performance belonged to Adrian Hunt. The senior running back put together a monster night, carrying the football just 18 times for 259 yards and three touchdowns. That's an astonishing 14.4 yards per carry. When a running back is averaging more than 14 yards every time he touches the football, defensive adjustments become almost impossible. Hunt wasn't simply moving the chains. He was flipping the field. He was putting points on the board. And he was wearing down the Horizon defense. Socorro ultimately finished with 503 rushing yards, compared with just 68 for Horizon. The Bulldogs also added 161 passing yards, giving them 664 total yards of offense. That is dominance. ANAYA DOES HIS PART Quarterback Isaac Anaya also played an important role in the Bulldogs' offensive explosion. Anaya completed 9 of 15 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns, while also helping Socorro maintain balance against a Horizon defense forced to respect the run. One of his favorite targets was junior receiver Nevin Vale, who finished with four receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown. With Hunt pounding away on the ground and Anaya able to make plays through the air, Horizon was constantly forced to defend the entire field. HORIZON FIGHTS BACK The final score doesn't completely reflect Horizon's effort. The Scorpions kept competing until the final whistle. Quarterback D. Zuniga finished 13-of-30 passing for 175 yards and a touchdown, while J. Castillo provided a major bright spot with four receptions for 161 yards and a touchdown. Running back I. Aguilera added 68 rushing yards on 18 carries. But Horizon simply couldn't slow Socorro's rushing attack. And once the Bulldogs built separation, the Scorpions were forced into catch-up mode. A BIG WIN FOR SOCORRO The victory is particularly meaningful considering where Socorro started the season. The Bulldogs opened 2026 with a 35-14 loss to Burges, then responded with a 34-28 victory over Bel Air. Friday night's 55-21 performance was another step forward. Socorro is now 2-1, and the Bulldogs have demonstrated that they can win in dramatically different ways — from a close battle with Bel Air to a runaway offensive performance against Horizon. And with Hunt running like he did Friday night, Socorro suddenly has a very dangerous weapon heading into the heart of the schedule. NEXT UP: EL PASO The Bulldogs won't have much time to celebrate. Socorro travels to face El Paso High School on Thursday, September 17, in its next non-district matchup. The Tigers enter that game at 1-2 following a 64-20 loss to Bel Air. Horizon will try to regroup when it travels to face Canutillo on September 18. The Eagles enter that game 2-1 after crushing Parkland 49-7. For Socorro, Friday night was about more than simply getting another win. It was a statement. 664 total yards. 503 on the ground. 259 rushing yards from Hunt. Three Hunt touchdowns. 55 points. The Bulldogs came into Horizon looking for momentum. They left with plenty of it.
