MONTWOOD RAMS BREAK THROUGH! RALLY PAST SOCORRO FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

PREP1 Sports | October 16, 2026 After weeks of searching for a breakthrough, the Montwood Rams finally had their moment Thursday night. Montwood traveled to the SISD SAC on October 15 and delivered its strongest scoring performance of the season, defeating the Socorro Bulldogs 28–20 in an important District 1-6A matchup in El Paso. The victory was more than a mark in the win column. For a Rams team that had endured a difficult opening stretch, it was an opportunity to celebrate the work, determination and persistence required to keep competing through adversity. Montwood scored a season-high 28 points, surpassing its previous season best of 27 points in the season opener against Hanks. The Rams also secured their first road victory of the campaign, giving the team a much-needed boost as district play continues. <Cite refs={["turn773519search0","turn773519search6"]} /> RAMS FIND THEIR BREAKTHROUGH The Rams entered Thursday's contest looking to turn their effort into results. Against Socorro, they found a way to finish the job. Montwood's offense put together its most productive performance of the season, reaching the end zone often enough to withstand the Bulldogs and secure the eight-point win. The result offered a meaningful reward for a team that had continued to compete despite its early-season struggles. Winning on the road is never easy, particularly in district play, and the Rams left the SISD SAC with a result they can build on. SOCORRO LEFT SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS Socorro entered the matchup hoping to gain momentum of its own, but the Bulldogs came up short in front of their home crowd. The loss dropped Socorro to 2–4 on the season and marked its third consecutive defeat. For the Bulldogs, the challenge now becomes finding consistency and responding as the district schedule moves forward. <Cite refs={["turn773519search6"]} /> ONE WIN, A FRESH START Montwood improved to 1–7 overall with Thursday's victory, while Socorro fell to 2–4. The Rams still have work ahead, but the significance of their first win should not be overlooked. A season-high scoring effort, a road victory and the satisfaction of seeing their persistence rewarded provide Montwood with something tangible to carry into its next game. For the Rams, Thursday night was about more than the final score. It was about finally breaking through. GARDINER’S DEFENSE DIGS DEEP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST While Montwood’s offense put up a season-high 28 points, the Rams’ defensive effort was just as important in securing the breakthrough victory. Defensive Coordinator Klay Gardiner’s unit had to buckle down and hold Socorro to 20 points, finding a way to keep the Bulldogs from doing enough damage to erase Montwood’s advantage. In a game where every possession mattered, the Rams needed their defense to rise to the challenge. Socorro continued to fight, but Montwood held its ground and protected the lead long enough to secure the 28–20 victory. For Gardiner and the defensive unit, the assignment was simple in principle but difficult in execution: make the necessary stops, limit the Bulldogs’ scoring opportunities and finish the night with a win. The defense delivered when it counted, helping Montwood finally break through for its first victory of the season. The result was a complete team effort — and a win the Rams can build on.
