Joe Fernandez: A TUFF Performance Puts Everyone on Notice

By PREP1 Sports | PREP1USA.COM The 2027 quarterback from Pebble Hills High School is the latest recipient of the TUFF SHED “TUFF Guy of the Week,” brought to you by the Greater El Paso Football Showcase — and the numbers behind the recognition tell the story. Against Eastwood on October 1, Fernandez put together a performance that showcased exactly why the young quarterback continues to generate attention around El Paso. Fernandez finished the night 15-of-23 passing for 317 yards and four touchdowns, adding another 70 yards on 15 rushing attempts. That’s 387 total yards of offense and four touchdowns from the Pebble Hills signal-caller. 317 passing yards. 70 rushing yards. 4 touchdowns. One TUFF performance. Fernandez showed more than just arm strength. He demonstrated the ability to extend plays with his legs, make plays downfield and keep the offense moving when the pressure was on. For a quarterback in the Class of 2027, those are the types of performances that can accelerate a player's name and reputation throughout the Greater El Paso football scene. And there is another stage where El Paso's best eventually get their opportunity to shine. The 34th Annual Greater El Paso Football Showcase All-Star Game is set for December 19, 2026, at SAC II, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Showcase will feature 92 senior All-Stars from across the city, divided into two teams — the Blue Thunder and Red Storm. Fernandez is a 2027 athlete, meaning he is eligible for this year's senior All-Star roster, and performances like the one he just delivered are exactly what can put a young player on the Greater El Paso Football Showcase radar. The road to becoming an All-Star doesn't begin when the jersey is handed out. It begins with performances like this. And right now, Joe Fernandez is making plenty of noise.
