GIGI DOMINGUEZ REACHES 1,000-DIG MILESTONE

EL PASO, Texas — Chapin High School junior libero Gianna “Gigi” Dominguez reached a major career milestone Tuesday night, September 8, 2026, recording her 1,000th career dig and adding another memorable chapter to an already impressive volleyball career. The 2028 defensive standout has established herself as one of the premier defensive players in El Paso, providing the Huskies with a steady presence in the back row and consistently making the difficult defensive play look routine. El Paso Times preseason coverage identified Dominguez as a key leader for Chapin heading into the 2026 season, while also noting her commitment to UTEP. Dominguez's milestone comes after another strong stretch of play this season. She recently posted 32 digs and three aces against Pebble Hills and recorded 23 digs and four aces against Eastlake, illustrating the defensive workload she continues to handle for the Huskies. But for Dominguez, reaching 1,000 wasn't simply about an individual number. In an Instagram post celebrating the achievement, she expressed gratitude toward her coaches, teammates, supporters and family, emphasizing that the milestone was made possible by the people who have been alongside her throughout the journey. She specifically recognized both former and current teammates for pushing her, believing in her and sharing the court with her. “1,000 Digs!” For a player whose game is built around making plays for everyone else, the milestone was fittingly a celebration of more than just one athlete.
