EL DORADO AZTECS SURVIVE AMERICAS RALLY IN WILD 50–46 DISTRICT SHOWDOWN
PREP1 Sports | October 18, 2026 | 📸 Photo Credit: Luis Ramos | @prods2fye Friday night’s District 1-5A Division I showdown delivered everything high school football fans could ask for: explosive offense, momentum swings and a finish that kept the pressure on until the final whistle. The El Dorado Aztecs outlasted the Americas Trailblazers, 50–46, on October 16, securing their third consecutive victory in a high-scoring contest at the Socorro Independent School District Student Activities Complex. Americas came out firing, opening the game with a 10–0 first-quarter advantage. But El Dorado answered with the offensive firepower needed to overcome the early deficit and escape with a four-point victory. Booth Leads the Aztecs’ Attack Quarterback Brycen Booth delivered a standout performance for El Dorado, accounting for four touchdowns as the Aztecs continued their recent run of success. His production helped El Dorado keep pace with an Americas offense that was capable of scoring in a hurry. The Aztecs entered the matchup coming off victories over Burges and Parkland, and Friday’s result extended their winning streak to three games. With 50 points on the scoreboard, El Dorado demonstrated the offensive punch required to survive a shootout against a dangerous district opponent. Edwards Delivers a Monster Night for Americas Even in defeat, Maurice Edwards produced one of the most remarkable individual performances of the weekend. The Americas standout piled up 281 rushing yards and six total touchdowns, according to the El Paso Times’ Week 8 performance roundup. His explosive night kept the Trailblazers within striking distance and made El Dorado work for every bit of its victory. The MaxPreps recap also highlighted Ryan Renteria, who recorded 67 receiving yards and two touchdowns, adding another dimension to the Trailblazers’ offensive attack. Americas opened strongly and continued to threaten throughout the contest, but its offensive production ultimately fell just short of overcoming the Aztecs. El Dorado Keeps Rolling in District Play The victory moved El Dorado to 4–2 overall, while Americas fell to 2–5. The Aztecs extended their winning streak to three games and continued building momentum as district competition intensified. For El Dorado, the win was a testament to its ability to respond when challenged. Falling behind early could have changed the direction of the night, but the Aztecs stayed in the fight and found a way to score enough points to secure the result. For Americas, Edwards’ extraordinary performance offered a reminder of the Trailblazers’ offensive potential, even as the team searches for consistency and a return to the win column. In a matchup featuring 96 combined points, defense was at a premium. Ultimately, El Dorado made enough plays to leave with the victory.
