EL DORADO AZTECS STORM INTO DISTRICT PLAY WITH 47-24 WIN OVER PARKLAND
PREP1 SPORTS | Thursday, October 8, 2026 SAC II — El Paso, Texas The El Dorado Aztecs opened District 1-5A Division I play in convincing fashion Thursday night, overpowering the Parkland Matadors 47-24 at SAC II behind a high-powered offensive performance. El Dorado established control early, carrying a commanding 40-10 halftime lead before finishing the job and securing its third victory of the season. The Aztecs improved to 3-2 overall, while Parkland fell to 1-4, extending its losing streak to four games. BOOTH AND SAMUEL LEAD THE CHARGE Senior quarterback Brycen Booth delivered a career-level performance, completing 75% of his passes for 290 yards and five touchdowns. His five scoring passes marked a new season high. Senior playmaker Kevin Samuel also made his presence felt, producing 166 total yards and three touchdowns as the Aztecs repeatedly found ways to reach the end zone. The combination of Booth's accuracy and Samuel's playmaking ability proved too much for the Matadors to overcome. AZTECS SET THE TONE EARLY The 40-10 halftime advantage gave El Dorado the cushion it needed to manage the second half and close out the district-opening win. Parkland continued competing defensively, recording three sacks. Emilio Alvarez, Jayden Gillis and Armando Colon each finished with one sack, showing the Matadors' ability to generate pressure despite the final result. But El Dorado's offensive production ultimately set the difference on the scoreboard. DISTRICT PLAY IS UNDERWAY The victory gives the Aztecs an important early win as the District 1-5A Division I race begins to take shape. With district games carrying postseason implications, establishing momentum early can make a major difference down the stretch. El Dorado now turns its attention to Americas on Friday, October 16, while Parkland prepares to face Bel Air that same night. Thursday belonged to the Aztecs. El Dorado 47. Parkland 24.
