EASTWOOD TROOPERS TAKE FLIGHT: EASTWOOD POWERS PAST CORONADO, 45-14
PREP1 SPORTS | Friday, October 9, 2026 Eastwood High School | El Paso, Texas The Eastwood Troopers made a statement Friday night, taking control early and never letting up in a convincing 45-14 victory over the Coronado Thunderbirds. In this District 1-6A showdown, Eastwood delivered a complete performance on both sides of the football, scoring in all four quarters and handing Coronado its first loss in five games. The Troopers improved to 5-2 overall, while the Thunderbirds fell to 4-3. TROOPERS SET THE TONE EARLY Eastwood opened the scoring with a 3-0 first-quarter advantage before its offense erupted in the second quarter. The Troopers put up 21 points in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a commanding 24-7 lead. Eastwood continued applying pressure after the break, adding another 14 points in the third quarter before closing out the game with a fourth-quarter touchdown. Coronado managed a touchdown in both the second and third quarters, but the Thunderbirds couldn't match Eastwood's consistent scoring production. DEFENSE BRINGS THE PRESSURE While the offense supplied the points, Eastwood's defense made life difficult for Coronado throughout the night. The Troopers recorded seven sacks, their highest total of the season, disrupting the Thunderbirds' offensive rhythm and helping Eastwood maintain control. It was a statement defensive effort in a district matchup where every possession mattered. THE DISTRICT RACE CONTINUES Eastwood's victory keeps the Troopers moving in the right direction as the District 1-6A schedule intensifies. Next, Eastwood travels to face Franklin on Friday, October 16, while Coronado returns home to host Eastlake that same evening. Friday night belonged to the Troopers. They scored early, built their lead through the middle quarters and finished with authority. Eastwood 45. Coronado 14. The Troopers are gaining momentum—and district opponents have been put on notice. 📸 Rudy Valdez @mydezigns_photography - John Cortez @mixxdcortez | PREP1 Network
