In a District 1-6A matchup that came down to three points, the Eastlake Falcons found a way to finish the job.
Eastlake defeated the Coronado Thunderbirds, 27–24, on Friday, October 16, earning a hard-fought victory on the road at Coronado High School. Fajardo and Rivera Power the Falcons' Offense
Eastlake quarterback Jonathan Fajardo delivered an outstanding performance, throwing for 226 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Falcons' offense.
Wide receiver Ethan Rivera was his primary big-play target, finishing with 134 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions. Their connection provided Eastlake with the explosive plays it needed to edge the Thunderbirds in a tightly contested rivalry matchup. <Cite refs={["turn978937view0"]}/>
The Falcons' ability to convert through the air proved decisive, with Fajardo spreading the ball downfield and Rivera repeatedly finding ways to make an impact in the passing game.
Defense Makes Its Presence Felt
While the offense supplied the points, Eastlake's defense delivered important plays of its own.
The Falcons intercepted Coronado quarterback Nolan Montion twice, with Zaid Rangel and Carlos Gandarilla recording the interceptions.
Eastlake also brought pressure up front, recording three sacks. Leonidus Silva, Ever Villalobos and Seven Thrower each finished with one sack, helping disrupt Coronado's offensive rhythm.
Coronado had its own standout performer in CJ Frescas, who totaled 87 rushing yards and a touchdown while adding 45 receiving yards. His production helped keep the Thunderbirds within striking distance, but Eastlake ultimately held on for the three-point victory.
A Valuable Win in the District Race
The victory improved Eastlake to 5–2 overall and 1–2 in district play, while Coronado fell to 4–4 overall, suffering its second consecutive defeat.
For Eastlake, the win was built on a combination of offensive efficiency and defensive playmaking. Fajardo and Rivera provided the scoring punch, while the interceptions and pass rush helped the Falcons withstand Coronado's challenge.
In a district where every result matters, Eastlake's three-point victory could prove important as the Falcons continue their push through the schedule.
FINAL: Eastlake Falcons 27, Coronado Thunderbirds 24
