200 WINS AND COUNTING NO MORE: CANUTILLO EAGLES DELIVER FOR COACH SCOTT BROOKS

Canutillo defeats Del Valle, 28–12, as legendary head coach reaches a historic career milestone in his final season.

PREP1 SPORTS | Friday, October 9, 2026 Canutillo High School | Canutillo, Texas Some victories mean more than the final score. On Friday night, the Canutillo Eagles delivered a memorable performance, defeating the Del Valle Conquistadors 28–12 in their District 1-5A Division II opener while giving head coach Scott Brooks his 200th career victory. For Brooks, the milestone represents decades of dedication, leadership, and commitment to Canutillo football. After taking over as head coach in 1999, he helped establish the Eagles as one of the El Paso area's respected high school football programs. With the 2026 season marking his final campaign, reaching 200 wins made Friday night's result especially meaningful. REYES LEADS THE OFFENSIVE CHARGE Canutillo built a 21–6 lead behind a powerful performance from running back Sylas Reyes, who scored two rushing touchdowns. Reyes finished with 121 rushing yards, continuing a stretch of five consecutive games with at least 100 yards on the ground. The Eagles also made their presence felt on defense. Christian Huerta returned an interception for a touchdown, helping Canutillo seize control. The defense added four sacks, keeping pressure on the Conquistadors throughout the matchup. Del Valle battled back, with Angel Cummings recording 153 receiving yards and a touchdown, but the Conquistadors could not overcome Canutillo's early advantage. A MILESTONE IN BROOKS' FINAL SEASON Brooks' 200th victory carries a special family connection: he joins his father, Don Brooks, who recorded 228 career high school coaching wins. Now at 5–1 overall and 1–0 in district, Canutillo has momentum as it continues through Brooks' farewell season. Del Valle falls to 3–3 overall and 0–1 in district. Canutillo travels to face Jefferson on Thursday, October 15, while Del Valle hosts El Paso High on Friday, October 16. FINAL: CANUTILLO 28, DEL VALLE 12. One milestone. One team victory. 200 career wins for Coach Scott Brooks. 📸 Derek Lopez @Shotsby.Dxrk - PREP1 Network | Covering All Our Athletes.
