15th Annual Greater El Paso Football Showcase Combine Set for December 18

EL PASO, Texas — The road to college athletics and higher education will take center stage on Friday, December 18, 2026, as the 15th Annual Greater El Paso Football Showcase Combine returns to the Socorro Independent School District’s SAC I facility. Beginning at 4:00 p.m., the free event will bring together high school senior boys football players and girls flag football athletes from across the Greater El Paso area, offering participants an opportunity to demonstrate their athletic abilities and connect with college coaches seeking prospective student-athletes. Since its inception in December 2011, the Greater El Paso Football Showcase Combine has served as a pathway for local athletes pursuing opportunities at the collegiate level. The event is sponsored by Javier Loya, a graduate of El Paso Burges High School, whose support has helped create opportunities for student-athletes to pursue their academic and athletic goals. A Pathway to College Opportunities The combine provides athletes with an opportunity to showcase their speed, explosiveness, agility and position-specific skills in front of college coaches. Participants will be evaluated in the 40-yard dash, vertical leap, 30-yard shuttle and position drills. Organizers expect approximately 20 college coaches representing more than 25 colleges and universities to attend this year's event. Coaches are expected to evaluate prospective student-athletes with the intent of identifying candidates for potential scholarship opportunities. Those opportunities may include athletic scholarships, academic scholarships or financial assistance based on need. For many El Paso-area athletes, the combine represents an important opportunity to gain exposure to college programs and demonstrate that local talent can compete at the next level. Eligibility Requirements for Senior Athletes High school seniors interested in participating must have taken either the SAT or ACT before the combine and meet at least one of the following academic eligibility criteria: SAT: Minimum score of 800. ACT: Minimum score of 16. Grade-point average: 2.2 or higher. Class standing: Rank in the top half of their graduating class. Eligible athletes are encouraged to register in advance and prepare to demonstrate both their athletic abilities and commitment to continuing their education. More Than a Decade of Impact The impact of the Greater El Paso Football Showcase Combine extends well beyond the playing field. Since 2011, more than 250 El Paso football players who attended the combine have gone on to college, collectively receiving approximately $22 million in scholarships and financial aid. That legacy underscores the importance of connecting student-athletes with college opportunities and helping families navigate the path toward higher education. The combine highlights the potential for athletic participation to open doors to academic advancement, financial assistance and opportunities that can shape an athlete's future long after high school. With college coaches expected from more than 25 institutions, the 2026 combine continues that mission of connecting local talent with opportunities beyond the borderland.
